Aakash which is said to be world’s most affordable tablet by a common man and also the most awaited educational tablet is about to get a upgraded. The senior officials who are involved in this project said that this tab will get faster processor and along with an upgraded version of Google’s Android operating system.
Datawind suppliers were requested to supply 1,000 tablets with Android 4.0 version along with 1 GHz micro-processor by the Indian Institute Of Technology – Bombay which is designated as nodal agency for this project.
The government official said that from September they aim to test the new tablets. By November it is believed that tab will go into production and the government plans to launch it early next year among the university students.
The government is trying to meet the dead-lines to complete Aakash production and it totally depends on Hardware supplier who will supply the upgraded samples. These samples will be then tested and cleared by IIT-B thereafter.
Earlier Datawind had agreed to supply Aakash with Android 2.2 and 800 MHz micro-processor for Rs 2,276 per piece.
